Sometimes we try hard to succeed in something and wait for praises in the end. Result? Not always in the way we expect. As a student, I prepare a paper and sometimes I believe mistakenly it is the best I can do. But is it really the best? I rush to finish it impatiently when I find something new and can't wait to ripen it and think comprehensively on it. Or sometimes I get so excited that I can't see the flaws of my ideas. Today I came across with that quote of Goethe and it was kinda warning for me:

"Dream no small dreams for they have no power to move the hearts of men."  Johann Wolfgang von Gothe.

Maybe this is the point. He says dreams but it could be changed as ideas. Think big! Maybe my ideas are small and I'm 'getting lost in reflections'. As a result they don't move the hearts of my teachers:)))

I'm very excited that I got the latest book of İhsan Oktay Anar! I will start reading today but I read the comments on it some say wonderful and others say not as fascinating as Puslu Kıtalar Atlası. But I'm hopeful of this book and I know I won't be disappointed. First of all he is the writer of Amat-which tells the best story of the mariners in a fantastic fashion-and Puslu Kıtalar Atlası. I will share my opinion during the week!

Veee karşınızda İhsan Oktay Anar'ın son kitabıyla duruyorum: Yedinci Gün. Aslında okumaya bugün başlayacağım ama yorumlara şöyle bir göz gezdirdim elbette. Kimi en iyi kitabı olduğunu kimi de böyle söylemenin diğer kitaplarına haksızlık olacağı görüşünde. Ama ben umut doluyum tabi ki çünkü en iyi kitabı- ki bu benim için Amat'tır- olup olmamasını pek umursamıyorum, kıyısından köşesinden de olsa beni mutlu edecek şeyler olduğunu biliyorum onun içinde. Kitap ilerledikçe görüşlerimi burdan paylaşacağım efenim.

Actually it should have been the message of Saturday starring Dr. House: PLEASE USE IT! It refers to brain of course. These days it occurred to me that the reason of our misery is unused brains and hearts. Not to make others and ourselves  we should used them both more!

What I Learned Today

Today I read that in South Korea, scientists explained that an elephant called 'Koshik' can imitate sounds like a parrot!  According to the news he can speak five Korean words which are "annyeong", "anja", "aniya", "nuwo" and "joa".  They mean respectively "hello", "sit down", "no", "lie down", "good" in English. It is clear that elephants have the ability to mimic sounds. Maybe in a few years we would be feeding elephants like parrots and teach them words.   

Bugün Güney Kore'de 'Koshik' isimli bir filin bir papağan gibi kelimeleri taklit ettiği haberini okudum. Habere göre fil, hortumunu ağzının içine sokup ses tellerinden gelen sesi değiştirerek   "annyeong (merhaba) ", "anja (otur)", "aniya (hayır)", "nuwo (yat)"and "joa(iyi)" kelimelerini söyleyebiliyor. Kimbilir belki de birkaç sene sonra evlerimizde papağan yerine fil besliyor oluruz:)

Book of Monday: Death with Interruptions

Recently I met with the books of Jose Saramago. Actually he is very popular. Shame on me that I met him at the age of twenty four. At the bookstore I read first twenty pages of some of his books-Death with Interruptions, The Stone Raft, Seeing and I chose Death with Interruptions. A few days ago I started reading but unfortunately I haven't finished yet. A striking fact about Jose Saramago is his unique language. After twenty pages of a book and you can distinguish his works easily. It certainly requires expertness if you don't accepts it as repetition.
Are you afraid of death? Would you accept it if you are given a chance to live forever? But still there will be sicknesses and you'll get older and older. Not favorable, is it? Living eternally as a sick person doesn't fit for my heaven dreams. Nor for the people of the country of immortals. However there is loophole for them in the book: This immortality thing is limited with their country. But again this situation also causes lots of problems. The answers are, of course, in the book.


Jose Saramago (Bu arada adını başta Hose olarak teleffuz ediyordum ki doğrusunun Juze Serımagu olduğunu öğrendim.) yakınlarda tanıştığım yazarlardan. Nobel ödüllü ve oldukça tanınmış böyle bir yazarı yirmi dört yaşında tanımak da benim ayıbım. Kitapçıda o kadar çok kitabı vardı ki hangisini önce alacağıma karar vermek için birkaç kitabının ilk yirmi sayfasını okudum. Ve önceliği 'Ölüm Bir Varmış Bir Yokmuş' kitabına verdim. Alalı uzun bir zaman olmasına rağmen talihsizliklerden ötürü henüz bitiremedim. Kitabı okuduğum kadarıyla paylaşmadan önce yazarla ve kitaplarıyla ilgili dikkatimi çeken bir konuyu paylaşmak istiyorum: Dili. Öyle bir cümle yapısı ve anlatım tarzı var ki hemen alışıyorsunuz ve nerde görse tanıyacak duruma geliyorsunuz. Eğer bunu dilde tekrara düşme olarak değerlendirmiyorsanız, ustalık olarak değerlendireceğinize eminim.
Ölümden korkar mısınız? Sonsuza kadar yaşama şansı verilseydi size kabul eder miydiniz? Ancak ufak bir sorunla: hastalıklar va yaşlılık da varlığını sürdürecek. Hoşa gitmiyor, değil mi? Hasta ve yaşlı bir insan olarak yaşamaktansa ölmek daha rahat görünüyor. Aynı şey kitaptakiler için de geçerli. Öyle bir noktaya geliniyor ki insanlar ölümü arzuluyor. Sevgili yazar burda biraz merhametli davranmış olacak ki bu hastalıklı ölümsüzlüğü ülke sınırları içinde tutuyor. Ölümü yaklaşan insanlar komşu ülkeye bir adım atsalar ölecekler. Peki bu çözüm oluyor mu? Tabiki hayır. Sorunlar büyüyor da büyüyor. Eğer günlük hayatın spontanlığından biraz olsun kurtulmak istiyorsanız, sizin için de biçilmiş kaftan!

What I Learned Today

This is our new title and I want to share with you one thing I learn each day (at least I hope so:)

Today when I was reading the newspapers I came across with a disappointing fact about us. The results of a research were showing that the Turkish people are the saddest and the most angry people in the world. And unfortunately it is True! Depressed and pissed off people at home, in the street, schools and in the offices. And I'm not an exception. In such a tense and stressful environment you get old faster than any other creature, even faster than the butterflies. I don't know what should/can be done. I expect authorities will find a way.

Yeni başlığım -Bugün Ne Öğrendim- altında sizinle paylaşmak istediğim haber ne yazıkki bizim açımızdan biraz endişe verici. Çünkü haberde dünyanın en mutsuz ve en sinirli halkı Türkler olarak veriliyor. En kötü kısmı da bunun büyük ölçüde doğru olması. Evlerde, sokaklarda, okullarda yüzü asık ve her an patlamaya hazır her yaştan insan var. Eğer evde bir sorun yaşamıyorsak muhakkak dışarıda yaşıyoruz. Ekstra bir soruya sinirlenen hocalar, otobüste koca ayağını önünüzden çekmesini istediğiniz psikopatın size bağırıp çağırması, ve otobüstekilerin başlarını döndürüp bakmaya bile tenezzül etmemeleri... Daha ne yazabilirim ki , bunlar sadece beni sinirlendiren şeyler mi? Siz de hevesle kalkıp, güzel geçmesini dilediğiniz bir günde bu tip şeyleri  yaşayınca deliye dönmüyor musunuz? Bence çözüm artık bireylerin değil yetkililerin elinde. Toplumsal olarak tedavi edilmemiz lazım.
