Elveda Şarkımız Kiss&Drive'dan No One.

Photo of Saturday

Hello! Today photo day. During these snowy days I want to share this photo made of sky, sunshine and warmth. I don't know who taken it. But it brought light to my cold day.

Merhaba!

And Good Night :))

Lullaby by HoneyHoney,

HoneyHoney'den Ninni:))

Quote of Friday

Helllo again! Today I'm going to quote from one of my idols : Mr. Homer Simpson!!! Here it is:

"Don't think about fun, have fun."

I always want to be happy. When I'm home, studying, walking, listening, talking but it turns into a dream, an ideal the more I think about it. It sounds like your mission and when it turns into a 'mission' it gives you a huge responsibility. I must be happy!, I must smile! Hey look at them, they are laughing and I have to laugh immediately, I should have fun coz everybody at my age has fun! What a heavy burden I have on my shoulders. I don't know how to get rid of this sickness 'pursuit of happiness',or turning it into an ideal not a simple fact but I know  it is not healthy. Don't feel under the pressure of thought that time is running you have to have best of it. I mean when it comes to feelings. Being sad, angry or stressed is OK, as well as being happy.

Yine yine yeniden merhaba!

Books

I said I would share quotes from Virginia Woolf and now the first one comes;

" But you may say, we asked you to speak about women and fiction-- what, has that got to do with a room of one's own? I'll try to explain. (...)
But at second thought the words seemed not so simple.
The title women and fiction might mean, and you may have meant it to mean, women and what they are like,
or it might mean women and the fiction that they write;
or it might mean women and fiction that is written about them,
or it might mean somehow all three are inextricably mixed together and you want me to consider them in that light.
But when I consider the subject in this last way, which seemed the most interesting, I soon saw that it had one fatal drawback. I should never be able to come to a conclusion. I should never be able to fulfill what it is. "

The difference between an ordinary person(me) and Virginia Woolf. I read and see one sentence, while she reads one sentence and sees four sentences!!!

She lost her life as Leman Çıdamlı but I guess we will always remember her as Nuriye Kantar on Kaynanalar. This series is one of the lovely memories  of my childhood. I hope this sincere smile lasts forever.

What I Learned Today

cursed library

Hello again, I know I was going to read @The Waves and write something about it. But I couldn't accomplish it. Instead I read a part from A Room of One's Own and I totally admired it. I'll talk about it later on but I wanna share an interesting episode I read. Shame on me I read this so late. Whatever, Virginia Woolf tells she cursed a library because they didn't let her in just because she wasn't accompanied by a Fellow! Of course she took an oath not to go back there again.Though we don't know if she is talking about herself or this happened at all as the piece is a fiction. When you think about the general attitude towards women that doesn't sound awkward a bit. I would do the same thing probably, such an humiliating thing! I don't know what kind of drawback of women could have caused that? This really needs pondering. When it comes to what I learned/remembered today : World not fair, not at all!!!

Tekrar tekrar merhaba!

Snow

It's has been snowing in big flakes since I woke up, and I wanted to listen an old soothing song : @Hüzün Kovan Kuşu by @Düş Sokağı Sakinleri... Hope you enjoy this.

Dışarıda lapa lapa kar yağarken şöyle eski ve sakin bir şarkı dinlemek istedim, hazır bulmuşken de sizinle paylaşmak : Düş Sokağı Sakinleri'nden Hüzün Kovan Kuşu...Umarım seviyorsunuzdur.

Book of Monday

Good morning! I'm starting to read a new book very today : The Waves!!! I glanced over the comments and this made me more excited. They are all about how perfect it is. I hope I'll finish it till the evening and write my own thoughts on it.

Nostalgia

Ready for nostalgia? The Police is my number one, and this lovely song is the summary of my life so far :( And my fav part is:

Walked out this morning
Don't believe what I saw
Hundred billion bottles
Washed up on the shore

Seems I'm not alone in being alone
A hundred billion
Castaway looking for a home...

Movie of Sunday

Hey, today is movie day. When I was thinking about the film that I was going to write, I remembered Did You Hear About The Morgans? I know it has been criticized severely and isn't rated high. Most critics say it is full of cliches. But I noticed something very meaningful at the end of the movie when Meryl Morgan explained Paul Morgan why she insisted on getting pregnant. He was asking her why she wanted  to raise a child with him, she reminded him an incident in answer to him. It was about a mouse which Paul tried to take out in a box without killing it. Meryl took this behavior as a sign of caring father. Thinking about my dad in the same situation but with a spade in his hands claiming poor animal's life makes this opinion much more logical and meaningful for me. She was reasonable and absolutely right about his caring personality. That incident was a clue about him. I also judge people with an incident, if they become successful they will be my life-long friends or if they fail they have no chance any more. This may sound biased but I believe you are hidden in your random acts.

Merhabalar! Bugün film günümüz. Yazacağım film hakkında düşünürken aklıma Morganlar Nerede filmi geldi. Çok fena eleştirildi, düşük puanlar aldı. Hatta klişelerle dolu diye yerden yere vuruldu.

I realised that I haven't shared a Turkish song for a long time. Than I remembered this wonderful music by @Levent Yüksel, very talented @Turkish singer. Would you like to take a sip of this masterpiece and have an @İstanbul tour ?

Photo of Saturday: Infinity Pool

This photo was chosen as the best photo of January 2012 by National Geographic. It's called "@Infinity Pool" and taken by @Chia Ming Chien. Being in this pool probably makes you feel like swimming in the sky and enjoying a sweeping view of the skyscrapers. I guess I would feel I'm the BIGGEST dudes!!! And I don't care your worldly affairs even a little bit. I must be alone when I say this coz it would be sharing the supremacy. By the time I don't need to think about being in a luxurious infinity pool and claiming power because I'm broke, very very broke :( But even looking at the photo changes my mood.

Good Morning!!!

Sharing for just to remember this lovely song. Have you ever sung this or shared the lyrics with somebody special for you? I haven't, but I'm planning:) Here is the punchline:

Ain't no mountain high enough,
Ain't no valley  low enough,
Ain't no river wide enough,
To keep me from you...

If you need me, call me
No matter where you are
No matter how far
Just call my name
I'll be there in a hurry
You don't have to worry.

Özellikle can alıcı şu kısmı:

Hiçbir dağ yeterince yüksek,
Hiçbir vadi yeterince derin,
Hiçbir nehir yeterince geniş değildir,
Beni senden uzak tutmak için...

İhtiyaç duyarsan beni çağır
Nerede olursan
Ne kadar uzakta olursan ol
Sadece adımı söyle
Orada oluveririm
Merak etme.

Happy Anniversary

Yes yes yesss. Our blog is one very old. And this is our very first anniversary. I started this journey with A. However she proved me right for her laziness. She left me after a few posts. But kept going go. Now Üşengecin Günlüğü is crawling on all fours. I know it isn't a professional work but as I said we are crawling like a baby. Next year it will be walking, and the other year it will run!!! Who knows?  I'll try to be more disciplined and find much more interesting topics. Music videos won't change coz I adore each of them :) Perhaps I should prepare a new year resolutions lists. Thanks for following!!!

Evet, evt, evvettt.

This is the anniversary song!!!
Bu da yıl dönümü şarkımız olsun!!!

Movie of Sunday :Amelie

Today be the day of good music and good films. When you say good film it's hard to ignore Amélie. I had already mentioned it when I shared it's soundtrack composed by Yann Tiersen. It's is labelled as romantic comedy. But I think there is more than that. It's such a story that you watch with a smile on your face and great sympathy for Amélie in your heart.  She is a victim of misunderstandings and insensitivity of the people around her. Her world is like a whimsical fairy tale. The atmosphere has dreamy blurriness, I don't know if it is the right word to say though. She lives her life with tiny steps and you feel her struggle and hope that she will find her path. When I was watching the film I felt as if she was living in a fish tank all alone. It was kinda irritating coz I thought I was going to explode. I can say I wanted to step inside the movie and talk to her or even better listen to her, let her explain herself. Is there anything worse than being unable to explain yourself. Even, I, categorized as an introvert person, try to write something about me and share it with the world.  Maybe you felt the same the same discomfort against the deaf-like characters in the movie. But if you haven't watched it I don't want to ruin it by telling everything about it. I just want to know if you felt the same things like me? If you do let me know!!!
Btw it must be pointed out that she has her own way of expressing herself by helping others.

Another Day Another Friend by PUGGY

I think I'm addicted to the songs of Puggy!!! I spend 18 hours listening them. Another Day Another Friend is today choice. Hope you like it!

Sanırım Puggy şarkılarına bağımlı olmaya başladım. Günde onsekiz saatimi onları dinlemekle geçiriyorum. Başka Bir Gün, Başka Bir Arkadaş ise bugünün seçimi. Umarım beğenirsiniz!!!

How I needed you by Puggy

Father and Son by Puggy

My new addiction is listening all songs of Puggy!! I love them all.  Cat Stevens sang this song years ago, but I adore this version, too.

Yeni takıntım sabahtan akşama Puggy dinlemek. Neredeyse bütün şarkılarına bayılıyorum. Yukarıdaki şarkı da, Father and Son, aslında yıllar önce Cat Stevens tarafından söylenmiş. Ama bu versiyonu da harika. Değil mi?

Quote of Friday

Today is day we listen out enlightened people. And I chose a quote from Johann Wolfgang von Goethe again. He clearly lists "simple" things to do in a day and the most important one is in the end. Here is the sentence:

"Every day we should hear at least one little song, read one good poem, see one exquisite picture, an, if possible, speak a few sensible words."   Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Actually we all listen songs, and read poems if come across and see pictures or photographs that are brilliantly created but how many people can claim that he or she hears a few sensible words each day? The last advice is the one that makes his recommendation nearly impossible. Our heads get full with useless crowd of words that I cannot identify most of them as ideas. But when somebody comes out and says logical things, original ideas or something to make you smile it is like a miracle! Suddenly there appears a halo on them and a funny smile on your face :)) Not a miracle?? It's not the works that require physical energy that leave you exhausted it is the incoherence and shallowness of what is said, what is heard. Sometimes I feel I carry a heavy bucket on my shoulders because of them.

You missed the evening songs hıh? Actually I missed and I wanted to share this beautiful cover with you tatatataaaam Kiss&Drive and "It's In Your Eyes."

Poem of Wednesday: My love is like a red, red rose

Happy Wednesdays! Today is poetry day and our poem goes to ones who love passionately and express it bluntly. It was written by Robert Burns : My Luve is Like a Red, Red Rose. A love song that was sung by dozens of singers. I like that one of The Fureys, Irish folk band, and I shared it above. Here is the lovely poem:

Oh my luve is like a red, red rose,
That's newly sprung in June:
Oh my luve is like the melody,
That's sweetly played in tune.

As fair art thou, my bonnie lass,
So deeply in luve am I;
Ana I will luve thee still, my dear
Till a' the seas gang dry.

Till a' the seas gang dry, my dear,
and the rocks melt wi' the sun;
And I will luve thee still, my dear,
While the sands o' life shall run.

And fare the weel, my only luve!
And fare the weel a while!
And I will come again, my luve!
Tho' it were ten thousand mile!

Benim sevgilim ezgiye benzer,

        Derinden sevgim
        Ve seni hala seviyor olacağım
        Bütün denizler kuruyana değin

Bütün denizler kuruyana değin sevgilim,
Ve kayalar güneşle eriyene değin
Seni hala seviyor olacağım
Hayatım kum taneleri gibi akıp tükense de.

Ve elveda sevgilim,
Ve elveda bir süreliğine,
Ve döneceğim sevgilim
On bin arşın olsa bile...

Song of Tuesday: Underground by Mariama

I can't can't wait to share this fantastic song and voice with you. These days I listen this song as soon as I get up and spend the rest of the day repeating it in my mind. Aren't those words magical:

It's not too far from my shore to your shore,
It's not too far from my door to your door,
It's not too far from my heart to your heart.
...
Let's go underground!!!

Hope you enjoy this. Happy Tuesdayzz!!!

...
Hadi yeraltına gidelim!!!

Umarım siz de beğenirsiniz, mutlu Salılarrr!!!

not: eğer berbat çevirimle şarkıya kıydıysam affedin :(

Book of Monday

chess-1

This week we will read Satranç (Schachnovelle, The Royal Game or Chess Story) by Stephan Zweig. Actually you can read it in a day coz it is seventy-one pages and very absorbing. It is defined as novella. It's written that the story is an farewell letter because it is the last work of Zweig before his suicide. And it tells the story of Dr.B who has fever as a result of chess passion. The interesting side is that actually Dr.B.  never played it with another person until he met Czentovic, world champion, during a voyage. Then how and why did he learn playing it? This is the heart of the book because there lies a very sorrowful story behind it. It worths reading to find the answer...

Movie of Sunday

I'm here with one of the funniest movies I've ever seen till now: Blades of Glory. It's the story of the achievement of two rival skaters who end up in pairs to get gold medal. You can find the story everywhere. What I want to share the funny dialogues:
     Jimmy: I don't share rooms.
Chazz: I don't share shit. The night is a very dark time for me.Jimmy: It's dark for everyone, moron.Chazz: Not for Alaskans or dudes with night-vision goggles.

I won't forget the way Jimmy says "It's dark for everyone, moron."So humorous. What about this one:

                                              Jimmy: I call top!
Chazz: No, I already called it in my head.
Jimmy: What?! No, you can't do that, that doesn't count.

If you want to smile today, you should see this movie.

Şimdiye kadar izlemiş olduğum en eğlenceli filmlerden birisiyle karşınızdayım: Blades of Glory! Altın madalya kazanmak uğruna birlikte yarışmaya razı olmuş iki rakibin hikayesi. Filmle ilgili detayları her yerde bulabilirsiniz.

Jimmy: Ne?! Hayır, yapamazsın, o sayılmaz bi kere.

Not: Serbest çevirimi mazur görünüz...

Evening Surprise: Song!!!

Actually I was keeping this for music day but I couldn't help sharing coz it's so me!!! Hope you enjoy...

photo of saturday: we meet again,Yellow Scarf

Simple and gorgeous... It looks like this photo is talking especially the yellow scarf. Woman looks as if she has been waiting for the scarf and they have a secret conversation. The color  and positions of the woman and the scarf is so elegant. Photo captures a magical moment that looks so fragile and short.

Evening Surprise: song!!!

Tonight I want to share a very very lovely song from a very very lovely singer,Elisabetta Spada,  before going to bed. Hope you enjoy this:

She's Full of Things by Kiss and Drive

quote of friday

Sometimes we try hard to succeed in something and wait for praises in the end. Result? Not always in the way we expect. As a student, I prepare a paper and sometimes I believe mistakenly it is the best I can do. But is it really the best? I rush to finish it impatiently when I find something new and can't wait to ripen it and think comprehensively on it. Or sometimes I get so excited that I can't see the flaws of my ideas. Today I came across with that quote of Goethe and it was kinda warning for me:

"Dream no small dreams for they have no power to move the hearts of men."  Johann Wolfgang von Gothe.

Maybe this is the point. He says dreams but it could be changed as ideas. Think big! Maybe my ideas are small and I'm 'getting lost in reflections'. As a result they don't move the hearts of my teachers:)))

song of tuesday: anything could happen

I want to share my latest music video. I saw Ellie Goulding on Conan show and I searched her songs. Probably Anything Could Happen is the best one for me. Hope you enjoy this!

Merhabalarr. Sanırım en iyi şerkı ve klibi Anything Could Happen'a ait. Tabii bu benim görüşüm. Umarım beğenirsiniz!!

Have you ever been to  Paris? If not do you want to go there? If you ask me, of course I would like to go to Paris but I also would like to see the Paris as I imagine it in my mind. I know it sounds awkward but thats what I want!

BOOK OF MONDAY

İhsan Oktay Anar

İhsan Oktay Anar by dominamagna on Polyvore

I'm very excited that I got the latest book of İhsan Oktay Anar! I will start reading today but I read the comments on it some say wonderful and others say not as fascinating as Puslu Kıtalar Atlası. But I'm hopeful of this book and I know I won't be disappointed. First of all he is the writer of Amat-which tells the best story of the mariners in a fantastic fashion-and Puslu Kıtalar Atlası. I will share my opinion during the week!

The Photo of Saturday

Actually it should have been the message of Saturday starring Dr. House: PLEASE USE IT! It refers to brain of course. These days it occurred to me that the reason of our misery is unused brains and hearts. Not to make others and ourselves  we should used them both more!

What I Learned Today

Today I read that in South Korea, scientists explained that an elephant called 'Koshik' can imitate sounds like a parrot!  According to the news he can speak five Korean words which are "annyeong", "anja", "aniya", "nuwo" and "joa".  They mean respectively "hello", "sit down", "no", "lie down", "good" in English. It is clear that elephants have the ability to mimic sounds. Maybe in a few years we would be feeding elephants like parrots and teach them words.

Poem of Wednesday: The Lark Now Leaves His Watery Nest

THE LARK NOW LEAVES HIS WATERY NEST

The lark now leaves his watery nest,
     And climbing shakes his dewy wings;
He takes your window for the East,
And to implore your light, he sings:
Awake, awake! the morn will never rise
Till she can dress her beauty at your eyes.

The merchant bows unto the seaman's star,
     The ploughman from the sun his season takes;
But still the lover wonders what they are
Who look for day before his mistress wakes:
  Awake, awake! break through your veils of lawn;
Then draw your curtains, and begin the dawn

Sir William Davenant
