Today I wanna remind this quotation from Karen Lamb, who is the director of The Miracle You and the writer of I Felt My Wings. Every year I plan making huge changes in my life and at the end of the year I find the very same person in the mirror. Or I regret for the things I could have done during that period and the resolutions that aren't carried out . "A year from now on you will wish you had started today" When I read this sentence I thought about last year and my plans about it. There were so many things to be completed; I could have learned Russian and passed through the thesis phase of my M.A. this year, I could have studied more and had a job till now. They all passed. However a year from now I might be enjoying the things I started and completed this time. I won't stick to old disappointments and keep on thinking about future. I hope this quote will help you,too.

Yine çevirideki yeteneksizliğimi kullanarak bugün için seçmiş olduğum alıntıyı sizlerle paylaşmak istiyorum. Sözümüz I Flet My Wings kitabının yazarı Karen Lamb'ten. Bir üşengeç olarak başladığı işlerin yüzde doksanın yarım bırakan ve bunlar için hep hayıflanan biri olarak içinden çıkamadığım hayal kırıklıklarını tarif edemem. Mesela geçen seneyi ve ondan bir öncekini düşünelim, eğer o zaman başladığım yüksek lisans derslerime devam ediyor olsaydım hazırlık aşamasında verilen Rusça'yı rahat bir şekilde öğrenebilirdim, belki de şimdi tez aşamasına geçmiştim. Ya da kendimi daha çok sıkıp çalışsaydım bir iş sahibi bile olabilirdim. Hepsi geçti ya da kaçtı. Ama geçen sene yerine gelecek sene bu zamanlara odaklanırsam belki daha umutlu bir şekilde planlarıma odaklanabilirim. Sıra uygun kararlar almakta...

Today I decided to share my Polyvore creations with you. For two months my new addiction is Polyvore. It's an amazing site which let me create sets, collections and templates. I 've already had a desire for preparing posters and polyvore is the easiest way to express myself through using thousands of items freely. Actually it's a kinda fashion blog but what I like most is making templates and frames, and my favorite items are the sketches. Playing polyvore is like a rehab, and a funny way to spend time. From now on I'm planning to share some of my sets with you on thursdays. If you want to do the same you can join polyvore only with your e-mail address.

Öncelikle Kurban Bayramınızı kutlar, hayırlara vesile olmasını dilerim. Hemen ardından da alamıyorum bari oyununu oynayayım diye başladığım Polyvore'dan bahsedeyim. Evet, polyvore set, koleksiyon ya da dekorasyon ve şablon gibi şeyler oluşturabileceğiniz bir site. Zaten afiş hazırlamak için var olan isteğimi buradaki binlerce nesneyi, kıyafeti ve şeblonu kullanarak rahatlıkla karşılayabiliyorum. Aslında ürünlerin bedava reklamını yaptıran bir moda sitesi olarak görüyorum,ama ne yapayım o kadar güzel şeyler var ki varsın olsun.Ben çok keyifli vakit geçiriyor ve denemek isteyen herkese e-mail adresiyle başvurmasını öneriyorum. Her perşembe setlerimle burada olacağım ben de.

Quote of Friday

Today I choose a quote which perfectly suits my mood. Oscar Wilde says :

"Some cause happiness wherever they go; others whenever they go."

What a perfect sentence, isn't it? I' especially interested in the second part,though. because people who cause discomfort are many more than those who cause happiness. And I have been living with one of them. Generally I'm in mood of frustration when we are together. Imagine that each behavior of him or her jangle your nerves and you have to see him/her all the time in the same house. It is totally unbearable. His way of eating,talking, and laughing annoys me all the time. Each time he drives me/us crazy I think he can't do something worse. But he can! He pushes his and our limits every day. Sometimes I want to sneak in his mind and look what is happening in there. At this rate either I'll go mad or be a psychology professor. I hope there won't be one more of him around me all my life and I won't turn into a person like him.

Bugün kesinlikle ruh halime uygun bir alıntı yapıyorum. Oscar Wilde der ki:

"Bazıları nereye giderlerse gitsinler mutlu ederler, bazılarısa ne zaman giderlerse."

Tam anlamını verebildim mi bilmiyorum ama biraz daha açabiliriz sanırım. Bugün beni özellikle ilgilendiren kısmı ikincisi. Çünkü hayatımızı bize zehir edenler ne yazık ki diğerlerinden daha fazla. Ve ben de onlardan biriyle hayatımı geçirmek zorundayım. Onunlayken hep gergin ve sinirliyim. Yemek yeme tarzı, konuşması, gülmesi, kısacası her hareketi beni deli ediyor. Tam 'hıh artık bundan daha kötüsünü yapamaz' diyorum, sonra bakıyorum ki yapmış bile. Resmen kendinin ve bizim sınırlarımızı zorluyor. Bazen diyorum ki şöyle beynine sızsam neler oluyor orda diye bir baksam. Neyse bundan sonrasını değiştiremem ama umarım hayatımda ondan veya daha kötüsünden bir tana daha olmaz. Kalın sağlıcakla. 

Hobby of Thursday: Collecting

I don't have many hobbies as a lazy person:) Generally I choose the activities which require less movement and energy. Collecting bookmarks is one of them. As a bookish person it isn't surprising that I started collecting and saving them. Today I want to share some of them with you. If I need to categorize them, I can say there are sketches and pictures:

Üşengecin biri olarak fazla bir hobim olduğu söylenemez. Bu nedenle ben de daha az hareket ve enerji gerektiren aktiviteleri seçiyorum. Poem of Wednesday: for blue skies

Happy Wednesday everyone! Today is the day of poetry. Our poem belongs to Laurence Suckling. He is a sophisticated poet who also teaches English in Oxford. He is described as:

"Musician, writer, poorly person, teacher, tall, thin, gap between front teeth, messy hair, large to-do list, love of walking, good at destroying laptops and mobiles, thoughtful, trusting, must try harder, patient, accepting, calm, bemused, out of step, large steps, big hands, awkward smiles, prone to silence, fails to listen to own advice, could do better, being proactive, hopefully on the up now." www.amazon.com/Love,faults and thughts

I don't know him so closely but people who know him confirm this description:) Here is the poem I choose for this beautiful day. Although it is a little bit emotional, it's plain and explicit in terms of giving the atmosphere of loneliness:

                              for blue skies

mouthing the words
the singer sings
though they were written
without me and this moment in mind
they fit and fill the void
another's absence and living has left

I'm an M.A student from now on. I have been very confused about my M.A study. I've  made a decision and I'll give folklore studies a shot. We are going to look into the traditions, folktales, legends, oral history and music of my country. The picture above is a depiction of Nasreddin Hodja. Jokes related to Nasreddin Hodja blend humor with unorthodox wisdom. There is always something to laugh and learn from him. I hope my decision will be appropriate for me and I can overcome it. I'm going to share interesting things I learn.

Artık ben de yüksek lisans öğrencisiyim!! Uzun zamandır hangi alanda çalışacağım konusunda kafam karışıktı. Mezun olur olmaz işe başladığımdan ancak geçen sene bir programa kaydolabilmiştim. Avrasya Araştırmaları denen pek fazla kimsenin duymadığı bir bölümdü, ben çok severek ve merakla başlamıştım ama haftada neredeyse otuz saat ders oluyordu ve haftanın altı günü okulda olmanız gerekiyordu. Tabi ben şehir değiştirince o da kaldı. Yazın başında bir de İstanbulda şansımı deneyeyim dedim, gayet güzel bursu olan bir programa kabul edildim. Ne yazıkki İstanbul şartları ve bölümün geleceğinin pek de parlak olmaması lakayt hoca faktörüyle birleşince büyük bir eksi oluşturuyordu ve onun da devamı gelmedi:( Neyse artık şans eseri seçtiğim yeni bölümüm var: Halk Bilimi. Mezun olduğum bölümle uzaktan yakında ilgisi yok. Ama bu yönü benim için olumlu olabilir. Çünkü farklı bir bakış açısıyla yorumlayabilirim öğrendiklerimi. Umarım her şey yolunda gider.

Today I want a fresh start and I choose J'y suis jamais alle (here is remix version) composed by Yann Tiersen for the movie Amelie. For me this work stands for the definition of art. It can turn a cloudy, messy day into a shining one full of novelty, hope and change. Enjoy the music!
Artık blogumda hem İngilizce hem de Türkçe yazmaya çalışacağım. Gerçi kırk yılda bir yazan biri için büyük bir söz. Bugün için seçtiğim parça Amelie filmi sayesinde varlığından haberdar olduğum Yann Tiersen'e ait. Filmin birçok soundtracki var ama ben daha sonra üzerinde çok çalışılan J'y suis jamais alle'ye bayıldım.
